Tuscan artists we love - Antonio Possenti
ANTONIO POSSENTI (Lucca, 1933 -
2016). Just a few words to mention the artists who animated the Tuscan, and especially Florentine, art scene in recent decades. Possenti, an autodidact, came to painting through the fascination of the magic
of drawing and illustration. After an initial “pink-blue Picassian” period, he
came to define the style that he never abandoned throughout his artistic
career, portraying an apparently naive, fairy-tale, fantastic, dreamlike world.
A magical atmosphere in which
his famous "bewitched tales" take place, childish spells with strong
symbolic and allegorical meanings. The oneiric dimension is underlined by the
presence in many of his works of his self-portrait, often unnoticed and
confused in the crowd of figures and objects.
