Painting and Drawing Course
A painting course in Italy and particularly in Florence always includes drawing, as drawing was intended in the past as "foundation of the art". Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Donatello, Botticelli and others were first of all great designers. During the Painting and Drawing course at the Leonardo da Vinci Academy in Florence first students will learn how to realistically depict still life in chiaroscuro, using graphite. They will broaden their understanding of figures in space and practice shapes, volumes, shadows, proportions and perspective. Then, they will do sketches with charcoal, sanguigna and ink. In the end, color will be introduced and students will use colored pencils, chalk and pastels. Concerning painting and watercolor, students will study basic techniques by beginning to sketch in monochromes and proceeding with contrasting warm and cool colors. They will then learn how to transfer the drawing onto canvas or board, use tempera gouache, oil colors on canvas, acrylic colors and varnishing. The course also includes lessons on how to draw the human figure with a live model. Students that already have a good understanding of these techniques will create an individual improvement plan together with the teacher.
Courses start every Monday, and lessons are held in the afternoon: Monday to Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
This course is available in three types:
-Basic course (6 hours per week)
-Semi-intensive (10 hours per week)
-Intensive (20 hours per week)
The minimum enrollment is 2 weeks for the Basic and Semi-intensive type, and 1 week for the Intensive type.
All our teachers speak Italian, English and Spanish.

The Painting and Drawing course is suitable both for those who are approaching the Art world for the first time and must therefore learn the basics to be able to work independently, and those who want to perfect their technique.
The program of the course is very flexible and the student can choose to devote more hours to the study of drawing rather than painting and vice versa, or to study only one of the two disciplines.
The Painting course focuses on the teaching of oil painting, but at the moment of the enrollment the student can choose a different technique among the following: Ancient Techniques (egg tempera and gold leaf), Contemporary Techniques (acrylics and mixed technique), Acquerello.
Within the Drawing course there are two classes: Life Drawing and Dynamic Drawing.
Life Drawing involves the representation of still life and the human figure, there will be models for the design of the nude and the portrait from life.
In this type of classes students will learn the chiaroscuro technique, essential for the work of every artist, and then they will have the chance to try their hand in the use of charcoal, pastels and graphic means.
Dynamic drawing provides the student with the tools necessary to develop autonomy in the representation. Particular attention will be given to the study of the human figure starting from volumes and anatomy, and of perspective. The chiaroscuro technique and the comic-style drawing will be taught as well.
Art materials are not included in the course fees. Students will be given a list of supplies to buy in a specialized store near the school, where they can find a wide variety of high quality art materials at discounted prices. Some basic materials can be provided by the school.
Classes are held in Italian and/or English and Spanish language.
At the end of the course students will receive a Certificate of Participation (Diploma).
