Pottery and Ceramics course
The art of pottery comes to us from the most ancient times, with it mankind has managed to create artifacts thanks to his manual skill and his practical intelligence, managing/succeeding to dominate the matter and using the movement of wheel.
In modern times this discilpline keeps unchanged all his charm, finding application in design and sculpture.
The knowledge of the art of pottery permits you to develop the many possibilities that clay, movement and your fantasy mixed together can give.
This becoming one only thing with one‘s actions and with the object that one is modeling, is another very appreciated aspect of this discipline: the natural harmony of movements and thoughts, which is reached by a good practice, leads to an inner well-being, now far from today's rythms and lifestyles.
The course aims to convey the basics that will allow the student to develop later independently the work at the potter’s wheel. The course develops as follows:
Phase 1: Introduction to the tools and materials
Phase 2: Preparation and « putting in the centre » of the clay
Phase 3: Shaping simple shapes (glass, shaped mug forms)
Phase 4: Modeling complex shapes
Phase 5: Finishing techniques (textures and details, handles etc.) and preparation to the firing
Phase 6: Firing
In the school we have a kiln where the student can, once dry, fire their work by paying a small surcharge, which varies by the size of the work.
The minimum duration of enrolment is two weeks. To ensure that the course has a satisfactory result it is recommended an enrolment of 2 months.
