Painting and Drawing Course
A painting course in Italy and particularly in Florence always includes drawing, as drawing was intended in the past as "foundation of the art". Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Donatello, Botticelli and others were first of all great designers. During the Painting and Drawing course at the Leonardo da Vinci Academy in Florence first students will learn how to realistically depict still life in chiaroscuro, using graphite. They will broaden their understanding of figures in space and practice shapes, volumes, shadows, proportions and perspective. Then, they will do sketches with charcoal, sanguigna and ink. In the end, color will be introduced and students will use colored pencils, chalk and pastels. Concerning painting and watercolor, students will study basic techniques by beginning to sketch in monochromes and proceeding with contrasting warm and cool colors. They will then learn how to transfer the drawing onto canvas or board, use tempera gouache, oil colors on canvas, acrylic colors and varnishing. The course also includes lessons on how to draw the human figure with a live model. Students that already have a good understanding of these techniques will create an individual improvement plan together with the teacher.
Courses start every Monday, and lessons are held in the afternoon: Monday to Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
This course is available in three types:
-Basic course (6 hours per week)
-Semi-intensive (10 hours per week)
-Intensive (20 hours per week)
The minimum enrollment is 2 weeks for the Basic and Semi-intensive type, and 1 week for the Intensive type.
All our teachers speak Italian, English and Spanish.
